Tasks
The geocode address task provides users with an alternate way of locating an address. Instead of relying on all the known address points in the County, the geocode address task uses the address ranges associated with each road centerline.
For example, if the address “103 North St” does not exist, then a find address search will not locate it. However, a geocode address search will.
The geocode address feature uses the address range on a given street and estimates where that address would be, if it actually existed.
When should “geocode address” be used instead of “find address” and vice versa?
Geocode Address is best when:
1) The address may not exist;
2) The user has forgotten to enter the address using standard US Postal Code abbreviations.
(An address of “129 East Main Street” can be entered into geocode address, whereas in find address,
it must be entered as “129 E Main St”).
Find address is best when:
1) The user needs the exact location of an existing address. (For example, the located
point for a geocode address search always falls along the road, which can lead to problems in
rural areas where the actual addressed structure is located far from the road).
2) The user remembers to enter the address using standard US Postal Code abbreviations.
